Philosophy/Design The wheels establish a car's connection to the road not only physically, but also visually. "That's why the right proportions of the rims to the body are so important," explains AC Schnitzer Chief Designer Michele Viandante. "Rims that are too small can quickly make a vehicle appear long-legged and unstable." The AC Schnitzer "AC3 Evo" lightweight forged wheels, in contrast, are truly down-to-earth. - Incorporated "SCHMIEDET" lettering - Incorporated AC Schnitzer lettering - Open design in silver/anthracite or anthracite/silver, allowing a direct view of the brakes - Central locking look in gold or gray. The highlight of AC Schnitzer wheel technology and the exclusive development for the BMW M5 is the latest development stage of the AC3 "Evo" lightweight forged wheels with central locking look. Even though the new lightweight forged wheels clearly belong to the AC3 design family, their appearance is particularly technical, thanks to the central locking nut and the no longer visible wheel bolts. The latter "disappear" beneath a special aluminum cover, which is screwed on together with the additional central locking nut. In addition to their sporty appearance, both of these features also serve as an anti-theft device, which is why a special key is included in the scope of delivery. The AC3 "Evo" lightweight forged wheels are available in two color variants: bi-color silver/anthracite or bi-color anthracite/silver. Depending on how extravagant or understated the customer wants their wheel set to be, they can choose between gray or gold for the color of the central locking nut. The AC3 "Evo" lightweight forged wheels have a partially polished and partially painted surface. Regardless of the color, all AC3 lightweight forged wheels feature two elegant, milled logos: "AC Schnitzer" and "SCHMIEDET." The central design element of the AC3 lightweight forged "Evo" wheels is not just a metaphorical one: the visible center locking nut with aluminum cover. This unit eliminates the need for a hub cap for the first time in AC Schnitzer's wheel history. The delicate yet solid spoke matrix with its five triangular struts of the AC3 lightweight forged wheels has been further weight-optimized for the new 21-inch version, and for the first time, this has also been done in the visible area of ??the wheels. Recesses are incorporated into the sidewalls of the spokes, minimizing the spoke wall thickness. The "art of omission" of the AC3 lightweight forged "Evo" wheels has not only led to weight reduction, but also created an even sportier look. - high-quality lightweight forged wheels save up to 25 - 35% weight compared to conventional cast wheels - noticeable reduction of unsprung masses and gyroscopic forces on the car,This results in significantly increased driving dynamics, significantly improved acceleration and deceleration due to lower masses, improved cornering handling, high-quality clear coat to protect the rim against corrosion, resulting in a long service life.

material Around 97 percent of the melt consists of aluminum, but the remaining three percent of the wrought alloy also plays a role in influencing the desired material properties for the ideal wheel. In addition to the main component, aluminum, the alloy also contains one percent each of magnesium and titanium (which ensures finer grain). The precise composition of the material alloy has a significant influence on the final properties of the wheel. Pure aluminum Around 97 percent of the alloy consists of pure aluminum. The remaining three percent of the wrought alloy is important for the material's properties. Chromium The master alloy AlCr20, which contains the hard metal chromium, improves recrystallization resistance. Master alloy is a mixture of aluminum with other substances; in this case, it is a maximum of 0.25 percent by weight of chromium, which is a very small amount. Magnesium Magnesium, together with pure silicon, increases the strength of the overall alloy. The maximum proportion of these materials is 1.2 and 1.3 percent by weight respectively. Titanium These shiny bars are the master alloy AlTi5B1. It serves to finer the grain structure of the overall alloy. The proportion of the expensive raw material titanium is only 0.1 percent by weight. Silicon: These irregularly shaped lumps are only added to the alloy together with magnesium. This increases the strength. The silicon content is between 0.7 and 1.3 percent by weight. Manganese: The addition of 0.4 to 1.0% manganese makes the alloy tougher. The manganese has a positive effect on recrystallization behavior.

production Forging – a complex process that must ensure the highest levels of safety. In many steps, the wheel is prepared for its important role in ensuring a long vehicle life. This process guarantees excellent material properties, which are the reason for the low weight of our forged wheels. Forged wheels offer optimal safety for the occupants, even in critical driving situations.

Step 1: The nozzle A cast block of over 6 m in length manufactured by OTTO FUCHS is the starting material from which a nozzle, which is precisely tailored to the later wheel, is sawn off.

Step 2: Pre-forging In the first forging stage, the nozzle is pre-forged into a rotationally symmetrical blank with a force of 4,000 tons.

Step 3: Designing In the second forming stage, the styling is pressed into the pre-forged blank under a 7,000-ton press, which largely gives the wheel its final appearance.

Step 4: Punching In the final forging stage with 800 tons of pressing force, the future ventilation hole windows and the hub bore are punched out and the burr made of excess material on the outer circumference is secured.

Step 5: Flow pressing The outer edge of the blank is heated. The entire rim area, from the outer to the inner flange, is rolled out.

Step 6: Finishing The final step involves finishing: turning, drilling, and deburring. Painting completes this complex process. Source: Material and production: Otto Fuchs KG

Anthracite/silver surface During this process, the wheel is first primed, then completely painted. Next, the AC Schnitzer and Forged logos, as well as various detail areas that will later have a shiny metallic finish, are milled. A two-layer clear coat is then applied, consisting of a polyester primer and a matte acrylic clear coat.

Test procedures / safety After their design, the first sample rims are manufactured under real production conditions. These must undergo a multitude of tests. Among other things, their strength is tested. The bending test simulates the "rim lifespan." Every AC Schnitzer rim must survive this lifespan unscathed in order to be produced and sold. Vehicle-specific tests, including test installations with clearance measurements and driving tests on public roads and racetracks, follow. Only after these procedures do our rims receive homologation, i.e., approval for use on public roads. Wheels are safety-critical components. Therefore, they are inspected and tested with the utmost care. This begins with initial chemical material tests and concludes with rigorous endurance tests on test machines: - §30 StVZO wheel guidelines - ECE R124 - Bending tests - 90° impact test - Rolling tests
